As IEEE Çukurova Student Branch, we have organized an event which includes technic presentations from the prestigious companies all across the globe. The main purpose of this organization is preparing the engineering students to their future sectors.

Update

Currently I am preparing a documentation about telecommunication and networking. The technical side of this step is taking more time normally. But the descriptions and explanations are the easier side. Still fun though.

ps. I started to use Cisco Packet Tracer software. It's like brand new hello for me to the internet world.

Motor Structures and Some Basic Principles

Greetings,

 The purpose of this blogpost is saving the basic motor knowledge on here. So in such case when I stuck something or try to refresh my mind, I can look at here, and find what I look for easily.
The info is gathered together from several websites and books.


ELECTROMECHANICAL ENERGY CONVERSION II LAB NOTES
Inverters: These are the devices that converts a DC supply to AC supply. They can be used in transformers to reach a specified voltage. An inverter is a complex and expensive circuit compared to a rectifier, which typically has only a few simple parts.
Rectifiers: It’s the opposite device of the inverters. These are the devices that converts a AC supply to DC supply. Can be used in transformers to reach a certain voltage. There is usually a lower voltage. Radios, television receivers and power tools commonly contain rectifiers.

The Differences Between Synchronous Motors and Asynchronous(Induction) Motors

Synchronous Motors: Stator poles rotate at the synchronous speed (Ns) when fed with a three phase supply. The rotor is fed with a DC supply. It needs to be rotated at a speed near to the synchronous speed during starting. If done so, the rotor poles get magnetically coupled with the rotating stator poles, and thus the rotor starts rotating at the synchronous speed.
·  Synchronous motor always runs at a speed equal to its synchronous speed.
  i.e. Actual speed = Synchronous speed, or N = Ns = 120 f/P

Asynchronous(Induction) Motors: When the stator is fed with two or three phase AC supply, a rotating magnetic field (RMF) is produced. The relative speed between stator’s rotating magnetic field and the rotor will cause an induced current in the rotor conductors. The rotor current gives rise to the rotor flux. According to the Lenz’s Law, the direction of this induced current is such that it will tend to oppose the cause of its production, i.e relative speed between stator’s RMF and the rotor. Thus, the rotor will try to catch up with the RMF and reduce the relative speed.
· Induction motor always runs at a speed which is less than the synchronous speed.
  i.e. N < Ns

True Power: Power dissipated by a load is referred to as true power. True power is symbolized by the letter P and is measured in the unit of Watts (W).
Reactive Power: Power merely absorbed and returned in load due to its reactive properties is referred to as reactive power. Reactive power is symbolized by the letter Q and is measured in the unit of Volt-Amps-Reactive (VAR).
Apparent Power: Total power in an AC circuit, both dissipated and absorbed/returned is referred to as apparent power. Apparent power is symbolized by the letter S and is measured in the unit of Volt-Amps (VA).
These three types of power are trigonometrically related to one another. In a right triangle,
P = adjacent length, Q = opposite length, and S = hypotenuse length. The opposite angle is equal to the circuit’s impedance (Z) phase angle.

Coming Soon

As soon as I started to use computer design softwares, I was thinking about how I can make an e-journal. Well, let's say that I was at high school those times, and was reading lots of fictional books, stories and poems. So I had internet, which consists of a huge database of fictional books etc. It'd be said the universe of fiction. There were not only books, stories which are written by amateur writers, but also electronic journals, magazines. I was looking into them, was about to be lost in that amazing graphical patterns and layouts. Those were incredible. Hence, I had always wanted to create one of those magazines since that time. It does not matter how many pages are included in it or how much time it takes. The important thing is spending time with creating a stuff. That's why I took this idea seriously for almost two years. Every end of the semesters, we are announcing the new issue of our e-journal Yorunge. We got pretty good responses from all around the university clubs so far. I am so determined to keep continue this work till my graduation.

Taking everthing into account, the third issue is ready to be published. It'll be posted here, on my blog, after I announced it on my student branch pages.

I haven't written anything new here for a while. However, there are plenty of works that I have currently participated in, or finished already. I will certainly record all of them one by one. It'll take a while that's because  I am studying for my exams, and designing our club's printed materials at the same time.

Internship Notes


Currently, I am an intern at one of the biggest and cleanest power plant in Turkey, named ISKEN. I will try to share my knowledge about the process after or during the internship. However, it should fit the Privacy and Confidentiality Policy of the company. I'm taking quick notes about the units and processes day by day. If nothing impede, my notes will be public here.

iOS and Android Apps for our student branch

Hi,

At the beginning of the last Fall, I have discovered that there is a Poland-based startup which aims to help its users to develop both iOS and android applications with no coding knowledge. In this platform, you just become a member and start to design your own apps. The system works with just drags and drops. That's all you have to do. It's still in the beta process.

Process
I decided to create our student branch app, which is IEEE Çukurova, right after discovered this such a beautiful platform. I guess I only spent few hours to create the current app design. I wanted to integrate RSS feed to the app. But unfortunately we hadn't any. So instead of that, I used our Twitter account. There was still a problem on this issue because the rss feed that I used was such a mess. After few months tweeting and mailing about the issue, we made it with the platform's developer team.

This app contains useful information about one of the exclusive student branches in Cukurova University. And it also includes a Twitter feeder that will report our coming events and organizations to the users who do not tweet.
